Chicken with 40 Cloves Garlic
I first heard of 40 Clove Garlic Chicken while flipping through a couple of my favorite cookbooks the other day. I saw that two of them had a recipe for it. One was a sheet pan version and one was a stove top version, but the idea was pretty much the same thing: Load up the garlic and cook that chicken!
I LOVED the sound of chicken with 40 cloves of garlic and knew we had to give it a try. Mom and I were brainstorming and we thought it would be awesome to turn it into a chicken and potatoes recipe, making it a convenient one pan meal. And of course we also added a cream sauce, because….cream sauce. That makes everything that much better!
This 40 Clove Garlic Chicken and Potatoes recipe quickly cut to the front of the line of my very favorite Chicken Recipes. It’s right up there with Baked Spicy Chicken Tacos and Melt in Your Mouth Caesar Chicken. I think you need to try all three.

I really want to try this but i really don’t like chicken thighs…if i were to use chicken breasts, how would you recommend modifying the recipe? Less cook time perhaps?
You can use chicken breasts but the fear is they will dry out a bit. Just monitor cook time closely, you want the chicken to be cooked to about 165F. I’m not totally sure on cook time as I haven’t made it that way, but I’m sure it would work out fine. Hope you love the recipe!
Loved it! used a bit less garlic but everything else was perfect!
Awesome! So happy to hear that!!
yes garlic can make you stink, An issue as old as time. That is no reason to one star this recipe. I myself am allergic to almonds but I don’t go around just trashing recipes that personally don’t fit my lifestyle. unfortunately we live in the age of ratings and people will glance at this recipe, see 1 star and skip it, also it sounds like you didn’t even make this recipe. Your mom made a similar recipe that this is based off of unless I am mistaken.
I tried the recipe, it was fantastic but i did half the amount of garlic! Thanks for another dinner classic at our house!
Debbie I appreciate that so much, thank you! Yes Google does keep track of the stars so if people love the recipes I love them to star them, and hate to see one stars of course. I really appreciate your insight and SO glad you loved the recipe. Makes me happy to hear that!
“2 pounds (approximately 10-12 thighs) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, *See Note.”
Where’s the *Note? Am I missing something? Otherwise, thanks, can’t wait to try this.
Well Duh, now I see the * !! I think I need some of that “wine i like to drink”!!
Ha No problem at all! I hope you love the recipe :) :)
That’s definitely a problem with any garlic recipe. Have to be careful after eating garlic!
