You can jump to the recipe card for full ingredients & instructions!
- Place rows of crackers on a lined baking sheet.
- Boil the butter and brown sugar.
- Pour over the crackers.
- Bake.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top and place back in the oven to melt.
- Smooth the chocolate over the top.
- Top with pecans and sprinkles.
- Cool to set and break into pieces.
How long does it keep?
Once your cracker toffee has set and you have broken it into pieces, transfer it to an airtight container. It will keep well for up to a week and can be enjoyed straight from the fridge.
Can you freeze it?
Yes, this Christmas crack freezes pretty well, so be sure to make a double batch! Either wrap the whole slab or individual pieces in plastic wrap and foil and place in a freezer bag.
Thaw in the fridge or quickly at room temperature.
Recipe Variations
This cracker toffee is pretty good as it is, they don’t call it crack for no reason! But, you can easily mix things up by using white or semi-sweet chocolate and different colored sprinkles to match the occasion.
Pecans work great, but you can swap these for peanuts, walnuts or pretzel pieces.
Tips!
- Leave an overhang of foil when you line the baking sheet so that the Christmas crack is easy to remove.
- Let it cool completely before breaking into pieces.
- Stir the toffee while you boil it so that it doesn’t burn.

My chocolate didn’t melt at 1 min so I left it a bit longer then it was grainy. I will now melt my chocolate before I pour it on the crack. So disappointed .
We’re sorry this recipe didn’t quite work out for you, Kristie!
It helps to put it in the fridge, freezer, or – when it’s -30 like it is here tonight in Alberta, Canada, right out on the porch! – Turned out beautifully in 30 minutes!
I made this recipe the other night and the toffee didnt harden and was sticky after cooling. Any suggestions as to why that happened? or what i can do differently
It could be the environment you live in! May take a lot of more time!
Some times the weather is too humid for sugar to get hard.
So good & super easy. I added crushed up candy canes. 🎄🎅
