Dessert Lasagna
Dessert Lasagnas are a truly beautiful thing. They are simple desserts made from layers upon layers of the most delicious ingredients. Layers make everything taste better if you ask me!
I adapted this recipe from one my mom used to make called The Next Best Thing to Robert Redford. I have always loved that name! I made a few changes to make it “red velvet” and this Red Velvet Cheesecake Dessert Lasagna was born. I don’t know if it’s quite as great as Robert Redford, but it’s at least the second best thing.
Here’s what’s in our red velvet dessert lasagna:

How to Make Red Velvet Cheesecake Dessert Lasagna
Oreos, cheesecake, chocolate, whipped cream, chocolate chips, OH MY! All the best things in life are in this Red Velvet Cheesecake Dessert Lasagna. It’s an easy dessert recipe that is perfect for showing your love on Valentine’s Day.
- Start by combining the Oreos and butter in a blender to make the Oreo crust. Pour it into the bottom of your baking dish and pat it down into an even layer. Bake it for 5-8 minutes at 350°F.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sugar, cool whip, and lemon juice to make the cheesecake layer.
- In another bowl, combine the instant pudding mix and milk to make the pudding layer. Then mix in the cream cheese and red food coloring. (You don’t have to use the food coloring if you don’t want/need the red color. This just adds to the “red velvet” idea.)
- Once the cookie crust has baked, pour in the cheesecake layer, and then the red velvet/pudding layer.
- Top with a nice thick layer of cool whip, and then sprinkle on as many chocolate chips as you like.
- Let it chill in the freezer or refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
You can just let it sit in the fridge overnight if you are making it ahead of time. This works frozen or chilled, it tastes amazing either way!

This looks delicious! And as a red velvet enthusiast, I definitely can’t wait to try it! My only question is, which of the ingredients is going to give it that signature “red velvet” flavor? I’ve never baked anything red velvet from scratch, but I’d imagine there’s something other than the color that gives it it’s very distinct flavor. Could you explain to me what part of this recipe is going to make this taste like a red velvet desert? Thank you! P.S. I LOVE your site soooo much and am so excited to learn how to cook and bake just as you did! Xoxo
Red velvet is more of a light cocoa taste!
SOunds and looks good, but Wouldn’t that just be called a cake? Or maYbe a pie? I don’T thInk It needs to be CaLled a dessert lasagNa. ThaT’s just weirD.
Oops, I don’t know why random letters are capitalized. That was unintentional. I also dOn’t mean to offend with my quEstion- I’m just genuinely Curious as to why it’s different from a cake or pie.
It was just intended to be a cute name for a recipe. If you tried it I hope you loved it!
This looks Great – What size package oreos SHOULD WE USE…?
SORRY! DON’T KNOW WHY THAT LAST PART WAS IN CAPS!
LOL! I used a regular package. Hope you enjoy!
I’m very much looking forward to trying this recipe out on Valentine’s Day! Thanks for sharing!
Could you use a vanilla pudding with orange food coloring to make it a fall dessert?
I’m saying”GO CRAZY! ” Make it in pastel and use pastel m&ms on the top for Easter. Use blue food color and make it for a Monday! :) I despise red velvet and cheesecake but this combination is phenomenal! I would make it any color, top it with any topping but don’t stray from the mix. Yummy!!! ????
It’s NOT a Lasagna…!!! By definition a ‘Lasagna’ should be at least 7 Layers high; traditionally of noodles, bolognese/meat sauce, a béchamel sauce and cheese…
Thus, forget the ‘noodle’ aspect, to be a “Dessert Lasagna” it should be at least 7 Layers high… “Trifles” can have a number of layers, it more variable not specific per se…
Evan calling it a “Dessert Lasagna” I would still expect there would be ‘Noodles’ in it..?? Sweet lasagna-style noodles made w/ chocolate, sugar-cinnimon, peanut butter, pumpkin-spiced, etc., +Plus various jams, jellies and marinades noodles… Then incorporate other various layers of sweet elements such as crumbled cookies, thin layers of various cakes, m&m’s, candies, nuts, etc…
SOooo, use your ‘noodle’ & imagination bakers & confectioners..!! Hopefully I have sparked, inspired and created a “New” type of dessert revelation… It would be nice if you remember who planted this sweet seed of dessert innovation…
BTW: When you think of a “Dessert Pizza” it looks like a pizza, right… The article on the The Kitch’N blog titled, “14 Delicious Dessert Lasagnas You Need to Know About”
Dearest Becky,
Don’t fret!!! For rest assured, your recipe did not offend “Roget”!!! Allow me to elaborate, please…
I ran across an ad for a “dessert lasagna”, and became highly interested when I saw those little magical words…”no-bake recipe”…beneath the name of it. Well…of course! I had to check it out!!! :) It was on a website, run by a seemingly kind stay-at-home mom, who was into crafts, and baking, and blogged to share her projects with others. After reading the recipe, I scrolled down to the comments section, as I’m sure we all do, there’s always some valuable information that could assist someone in whatever the post is about. Half-way into reading all the comments, guess what I found??? Our mysterious “Roget”…and wait!!!…it get’s better…the comment this “Roget” posted on her page is identical to the one posted on yours – I mean, word for word, punctuation, everything. More likely than not this person just “cuts”, and “pastes” this same comment on various websites. I can’t imagine why anyone in the world would want to, or even feel the need to, be hurtful, rude, or unkind in the comments section for a recipe! Trust me, I know…people can be mean…but really??? a cooking recipe comment section???…Seriously??? What’s even worse though…I don’t know where this “Roget” is getting their information from, but there isn’t one single definition anywhere, at all, that states, “7 layers”, so I don’t know what this person is talking about! Yes, there’s a “recipe” on how to make a specific dish called “7 layer Lasagna”, but there’s no 7 at all, anywhere, in any definition for the word “lasagna”, and trust me, I tried to find one!!! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that this person is saying this (exact same) comment to various “dessert lasagna” recipe posts, and that you shouldn’t even think about it at all! I thank you for posting this beautiful recipe, and all of the other ones, and look forward to get in the kitchen and tackle some!!! Thanks again! I hope you have a wonderful day!!!
***Edit***
I just realized that “Roget” was saying it was defined as having “at least 7 layers”, not “it has 7 layers”. Although it isn’t defined as “having at least 7 layers” either, so I guess it doesn’t really matter how I worded it!!! :) There are NO mention of any number of layers!!! Only “several”, “a few”, “multiple”, “various”, etc…. Soooo….”Roget”….please, please, please, I am asking you kindly, please stop posting your (incorrect) comment on every “dessert lasagna” webpage you come across. There’s no reason, at all, to be rude, or unkind, for any reason!!! Please, please, if you feel the need to say something, there are ways to say it without being rude. I hope you actually read this, and I hope you actually see that your words are hurtful, and unjustified, and I hope that the rest of your days will be peaceful.
I don’t know about anyone else here, but my homemade lasagna is never 7 layers… Did he or she mean 7 layers of noodles, or just 7 layers total? Because I’ve NEVER seen a baking pan deep enough to accommodate a lasagna with 7 layers of noodles. Can you even imagine!? It would be SO tall with all of the layers of meat, sauce, cheese, etc in between each noodle layer. I fill my layers with so much yummy goodness that 7 layers of it would probably be at least a foot tall! Lol! And I love your play on words by calling it a lasagna! And I hope you still use that description for all of your your deserts like this! xo
