On mornings when I need a big boost for the day ahead, I love to sink my teeth into a breakfast burger. A flavorful pork sausage and beef patty is all dressed up with cheese, a fried egg, crispy bacon, and any other toppings my heart desires, sandwiched between a toasted bagel. This burger is one of my favorite things to serve for brunch or as a super fun weeknight dinner!

This breakfast burger recipe is just like your classic, all-American cheeseburger, but with a few breakfast-y additions like pork breakfast sausage, crispy bacon, and a runny fried egg. I like to serve it on a bagel instead of a hamburger bun to really seal the deal!
What’s in This Breakfast Burger Recipe?
- Ground Beef: I recommend using 80% lean ground beef so it blends well with the sausage.
- Breakfast Sausage: I used original breakfast sausage, but feel free to use flavored.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Adds umami to the burgers.
- Garlic Powder: Enhances the savory flavor of the burgers.
- Eggs: I love that everyone can have their eggs cooked to their preference. I like mine over medium.
- Bagels: I used everything bagels (yum!), but you can use regular burger buns, English muffins, pancakes, or even waffles as your burger buns! The possibilities are endless!
- Cheese: The best cheese for a breakfast burger is your favorite cheese! I like to use classic American, but you can use cheddar, Swiss, pepper Jack, or any other cheese you love. Feta or mozzarella would also be delicious!
- Cooked Bacon: Adds a delightful crunch and extra umami flavor.
- Lettuce: Adds a bit of freshness to the burgers.
- Tomato: Adds a fresh and juicy flavor to the burgers.

Tips for Success
- Don’t overmix the patty mixture; otherwise, your burgers will be tough.
- Bring the burger patty mixture to room temperature before cooking it to ensure that it cooks evenly.
- Use a meat thermometer to determine when the patties are done to your preference.
- Cook the eggs in the rendered fat from the burger patties for indulgent burgers.
How to Store and Reheat
Store leftover breakfast burgers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or wrapped in aluminum foil in the freezer for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating. I recommend freezing these burgers without any wet toppings, such as tomatoes, lettuce, or avocado, as they will become soggy once defrosted. Reheat gently in the microwave.
Serving Suggestions
I always add some mashed avocado or guacamole to my breakfast burgers. I find them super filling, but if you need something extra to serve alongside them, cook up some home fries or avocado fries, or skip the fried egg and make scrambled eggs instead!

How to Make a Breakfast Burger Step by Step
Mix the Patties: In a medium bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef, ½ pound of pork breakfast sausage, 1½ tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well with your hands.
Form and Cook the Patties: Divide the mixture into 6 patties. Place the patties on a plate and season with salt. Heat a large skillet or stovetop griddle over medium-high heat. Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, then cook the patties for 4 minutes per side, or to your desired doneness.
Cook the Eggs and Assemble the Burgers: Remove the patties from the skillet and crack in 6 large eggs, cooking until they reach your desired doneness. Place the patties on 6 bagels, topping each with 1 slice of cheese and a fried egg. Place 2 slices of cooked bacon, 1 slice of tomato, and 1 piece of lettuce on top of each, and any additional toppings you’d like.
