This homemade Herbs de Provence recipe is one of my favorite pantry staples to keep on hand! Although it has a long list of ingredients, it keeps for a long time once made, which makes my weeknight dinners much easier. No more tedious measuring! The herbs used are considered to be typical of the Provence region in South West France. Commonly, the blend is used to add fragrant sweet and savory flavor to soups, stews, and grilled meats, but I enjoy it on just about everything!

Making your own herb mixes is so simple to do, and I always have several jars in my pantry. It’s a perfect way to lift dishes and add more flavor to them with ease! There are a lot of different herbs that go into herbs de Provence and measuring out small spoonfuls of each one for a recipe can take a ton of time. Setting aside just 5 minutes to make this herb mix saves me so much time in the long run.

Tips for Success
- Make sure your herbs aren’t stale for maximum flavor.
- Use culinary lavender to avoid an overly bitter and “soapy” taste.
- Store the mix in an airtight jar or container for maximum freshness.
- Try using this flavorful mix in place of Italian seasoning!
How to Store
I prefer to use up my homemade herbs de Provence within 3 months for the freshest flavor. Because I’m using previously opened jarred spices to make it with, I find that it doesn’t keep quite as long as a sealed from-the-store spice blend. But that doesn’t really matter since I use it up so quickly! For maximum freshness, keep it in an airtight container.
Serving Suggestions
I use this homemade herbs de Provence seasoning all the time. In fact, it’s in some of my favorite recipes on the site, including this whole roast chicken, these melting potatoes, and my baked turkey meatballs. It’s also great added to pan seared chicken breast or mashed potatoes for an extra kick of flavor.
5-Star Review
“Love this blend. I made my first batch in July. I just finished making a second batch in late October. I’ve decided that I’m going to make this as Christmas gifts for some friends so good!” -Pixie
What does savory leaves mean?
Savory is a type of herb!
I’m curious to learn why you specified French lavender for this herb mix. It’s my understanding that French lavender has been crossed with camphor, which gives it a distinctive scent but a medicinal taste. I wonder why you didn’t specify culinary or English lavender.
You can use either!
Nice simple instructions and easy to follow. Thanx. Always have loved this blend.
