What’s in This Texas Toast Pizza Recipe?
I’ve topped toasted slices of garlic bread with robust pizza sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, and plenty of pepperoni. My kids are the pickiest eaters, and they come running to the kitchen when it’s Texas toast pizza night!
- Texas Toast: This double-thick bread is toasted and slathered in garlic and herbs, making it the perfect base for pizza.
- Pizza Sauce: Use your favorite store-bought or homemade pizza sauce.
- Cheese: We like classic shredded mozzarella, but you can use any cheese your heart desires.
- Pepperoni: A classic pizza topping that everyone loves!
Notes from the Test Kitchen
While I love classic pepperoni, just about any topping you can imagine would be good on these Texas toast pizzas. We have tried caramelized onions, roasted vegetables, roasted mushrooms, chopped green peppers, sliced olives or tomatoes, etc. Feel free to use your favorites! If using meats like sausage or bacon, make sure it’s fully cooked first.
Variations on Garlic Bread Pizza
- If I don’t have premade Texas Toast on hand, I’ve made these pizzas with thick slices of bread and just brushed both sides with melted garlic butter before continuing with step 2.
- I love to change up the sauce! Instead of pizza sauce, I’ve loved using pesto or creamy alfredo.
- Sometimes I add a little spice to each slice of this pizza with some crushed red pepper flakes.
- We love to change up the toppings. My kids and husband have loved when I’ve added sausage and sliced veggies. It’s also fun to let every family member pick their own toppings.

How to Store and Reheat
I think Texas Toast pizzas are best served fresh. I have stored leftovers in the refrigerator, but the cheese and sauce will make the bread soggy pretty fast. Luckily they only take 20 minutes to whip up, so usually we will just make the amount we need at that time, and save the rest of the ingredients for later.
What to Serve with Texas Toast Pizza
This garlic bread pizza can be eaten by itself for a quick meal or served with any favorite side dishes. I like it served simply with extra sauce for dipping and some Air Fryer Ranch Broccoli. When I’m feeling fancy, Roasted Tomatoes with Balsamic turn this simple meal into a luxury.
How to Make Texas Toast Pizza Step by Step
Prep: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
Bake the Toast: Place 8 Texas toast slices onto the prepared pan. Bake for 2 minutes, flip, and bake for 2 more minutes.
Add the Sauce: Remove the toast from the oven. Spread ½ ounce of pizza sauce onto each slice.
Top with Cheese: Sprinkle each slice of toast with ½ ounce of shredded mozzarella cheese and top with 3 slices of pepperoni. Bake for 6-7 minutes or until the cheese has melted. Serve warm and enjoy.
Texas Toast is just like garlic bread, but better! Sold in the frozen section of the grocery store, each slice of Texas Toast is thick with a coating of mouthwatering garlic butter on each side.
For crispier Texas toast pizzas, bake the toast for 3-4 minutes per side before topping.
Quick question, could this be made with non-frozen Texas Toast bread? And if so, any modifications for cooking times?
Hi Cee, it should work just fine!
Yummy! Super easy to make and affordable as a college student :)
